The Many Colours of Madder - Saturday 25th May 2019

10.30am till 5pm

This workshop is for people who have experience of dyeing with Madder and would like to explore the possibilities further or for beginners who would like an in depth introduction to this dye plant.

Madder can produce a range of colours from pale pink to bright orange, brick red and purple. In this workshop we will harvest the madder from the Plaw Hatch dye garden and use it to dye wool and linen. Working with a range of mordants and modifiers we will create 20 colours from this one dye plant.

Madder has been used as a dye plant for thousands of years both in the UK and around the world due to the ease with which it can be grown and it’s colour fastness.
